Kay was the Founder and Director of the University of Alberta, Nurse Practitioner Program early 1970s. The Program was for Nurses working in remote arctic and northern communities, to give them experiences, knowledge, and skills for work in First Nations and Inuit communities. I attended the program, and am greatly indebted to Kay for her wisdom, knowledge, experience, expertise, kindness, and humanity. Rest in peace Kay.

My mother, Marjorie McCalla (nee Evans) graduated in Nursing with Katie. Katie was a dearly loved part of our family. I remember her sharing her amazing artifacts from her travels with me, so that I could take them to school to show my classmates when I was in grade school. My younger sisters remember Friday night pizza nights with Katie, after my mother passed away in 1974. Whenever we were in Edmonton, Katie was at the top of our list of friends to visit. My family and I will miss her so very much. Please accept our sincere condolences and know that Katie will remain in our hearts forever.
