posted by Robert Chaffee : Wally was a long-time member of our Society. I am new enough here to have met him only a few times in the last four years. I was struck by what a kind and gentle man he seemed to be. Margot very kindly helped me quiz Wally's memory about our archives for an article for our newsletter. : Feb 03, 2021
So very sorry for your loss. Regrettably, parents do not last forever. May you and the rest of your family be blessed with many fond memories of your dad over many years to come.

I knew Wally Ross as 'Uncle Wally', but in fact, he was my mother, Joan McMahon's, first cousin (her mother, Joan, and Wally's mother, Alice, were sisters). Mom thought the world of Wally - he was funny, edgy, interesting, and he had a remarkable life, having brought up a very large family of mostly girls largely by himself. The few times I met him, I found him engaging, interested and interesting, and someone who took a keen interest in people and in life, That was certainly confirmed this morning as I listened to the interview of Wally on CBC from 2014 that featured his accomplishment with finally getting his high school diploma at 90! I must say that the man certainly had a zest for life. I remember an event with he and his wife, just after they had met, and oh my goodness, how enthralled he was with her, and she with him. Lovely to know they were together for some 40 years. Wally came from an extraordinary family, his mother having been one of the first female architects in Canada. I remember her fox stoles. He has left an extraordinarily lovely family, and his fabulous, beautiful sister Terry. It's reassuring to know that he died peacefully, in his own home. Lots of love to you all, and my condolences. Hi Everybody
My sympathy to all of you. Wally was a truly committed dad, grandfather and I'm sure a great grandfather as well. His family was incredibly important to him .
I've known him for a long time, not as well as his sisters who were closer to me in age than he was, but I ran into him quite often and with some of you, especially Colleen, quite a bit.
I remember him as a real hero in doing what he thought was his responsibility. I found him rough around the edges at times but also an exceptionally passionate individual about causes he believed in. Someone I truly admired.
I'm sure you can all forgive him for any hurts he may have inflicted as I truly believe his actions were always meant for your welfare and your greater happiness. He had a big heart and that is the true sign of greatness.
