My thoughts are with you. I have many great memories of your Dad and working at the office.

Dear Tom, Ardith, and Elaine,
I was saddened to read of the passing of your father, but note that he enjoyed an outstanding 97 years! Living next door to your family in Glenora six decades ago, I shall always remember him for his gentle, kind, and calm manner. He took an interest in the community, and city, and our family certainly enjoyed living beside your family. Your father always took time to say hello and find out how I was doing. Your dad introduced me to philately (I still maintain some interest) and this spawned knowledge by me in geography and the world. You may be saddened by his passing, but heartened by the many lives he touched in his lifetime.

Tom & Elaine
About 55 years ago my dad (Craig Montgomerie, Sr.) was a "traveller" for the Aetna Insurance Company. Dad often visited with Vern when he was in Edmonton. One day, dad came back from Edmonton with a number of sheets of mounted airmail stamps that Vern had given him to "get me started" on a stamp collection. Unfortunately, philately didn't take, but I become an avid numismatist (I think I loved the idea that I had "real" money! I have never forgotten Vern's generosity to help someone he had never met to become involved in something that he loved.
Later, when dad opened his own insurance agency in Lethbridge, Vern gave him a great deal of advice on "the other side" of the insurance business.
Your dad was a generous and supportive friend to my dad, and to our family. He will be missed.
Craig
