Kottke Marlene Kaethe Erika

In Loving Memory of

Marlene Kaethe Erika Kottke

(Maiden: Friedrich)
of Edmonton

I knew Marlene from the Walterdale Theatre. She was part of a production I was in "Lion In Winter". One memory I remember of Marlene is we started a book club together. Our first read was "Eat, Pray, Love". We went to parkdale eatery and ate Lebanese food. We ate well that day while talking over the book. Marlene was a lovely lady with a lot of wisdom and I appreciated that. I greatly respected her and her presence will be missed. My condolences to the family. Sincerely Zoe Hawnt

I hope that Marlene knew how much I liked her and how glad I was every time I saw her. She was the epitome of graciousness, good manners and humility. Walterdale and I will truly miss working and socializing with her. Gute fahrte, Marlene!

"It is important with what we occupy ourselves and to which images and thoughts we give ourselves. Whatever enters us through our eyes creates an inner world and reality in us. The thoughts to which we give room and that we ponder, will shape us. What image and thoughts are they?" - Poet Ulrich Schaffer. Marlene was a poetical woman, she is the language of the heart, still now. All our thoughts are with you, Ingrid, Gerald and family. From all of my family, my aunt and uncle, all my cousins and their families in Germany and Great Britain and my daughter Marlene in Germany.

My sincere condolences to you all. I met Marlene as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. I will carry with me many memorable moments with her. How she made people feel is most memorable to me. You can be proud of Marlene's many accomplishments. She will be sadly missed, not just because of her presence, but because of all she contributed to Delta Kappa Gamma among the many groups she supported.

I think I'll always remember Marlene looking serene and beautiful and regal as a model at one of the Walterdale fashion shows. The outward appearance was a true image of her spirit: Marlene was a thoroughly beautiful person. I will also think of the courage and determination she showed as she made her way up that challenging stairway to help in many ways backstage. I was very, very glad to have enjoyed a long conversation with her less than a month ago, which means that she was feisty and courageous to the end. It was a privilege to have known her, and she will remain in my memory as a model of grace and charity.

As President of Zeta Province, Delta Kappa Gamma I would like to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time of loss. Marlene was a vibrant, talented, active member whose kind heart and poetic soul touched everyone she met. She will be missed but we are fortunate to have had the opportunity to walk with her on a part of her journey.

I wish I had some magic words to send you to express my deepest condolences, but there are just no words. You are in my heart, thoughts and prayers. I wish I could be there, I can only be here for you Ingrid when you come back to Winnipeg. Take care and know that all of us at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet are thinking of you all.

Marlene will always be a special kind of wonderful - always smiling, always with a positive comment or praise and I have always said Marlene is the perfect example of the kind of person I strive to be in my life - a role model for kindness, dedication, compassion and friendship. She made every volunteer at Walterdale Playhouse feel appreciated - even if you had a small part, she was there making sure you knew that that small part had a big effect. And that's Marlene - every small effort on her part had a HUGE effect on others who were blessed to know her. My deepest condolences to her family and her extended family - the friends, volunteers, and those in her community. That kind of life is never extinguished.

Thinking of you at this time of sorrow. May the memories of your mom and grandma give you peace and joy and always hold a spot in your hearts for her.

"Past the village flowed the river, like time, like life itself, waiting for the swimmer to come again on his way to the climax of his adventurous life, and to the end for which he had been made" These are the final words from Margaret Craven's "I Heard the Owl Call My Name" . This was one of the first books that I remember Marlene giving to me as a young girl. Over the years there have been many books from her, thoughtfully chosen, and given to each of us. They were like little bits of Marlene's wisdom, wrapped up in someone elses voice and given to us. She was a very special lady that will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with you all .
