(Maiden: Anderson)
of Edmonton
Jan 11, 1934 - Jun 20, 2015
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Sawyer on June 20, 2015 at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta; she was 81 years of age. Joyce was born January 11, 1934 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She was the younger of two children born to Albin and Elsie Anderson (nee Clements).
Joyce was raised on the family farm by Admiral, Saskatchewan.
She received her education at the Teacher’s College, University of Regina. Joyce also took many summer school classes at the University of Alberta. She taught at various schools in Swift Current, Regina and for a few years in Edmonton. It was here that she met the love of her life – Marvin. On May 17, 1958 Joyce was united in matrimony to Marvin Walter Sawyer.
Joyce’s hobbies included golf, bridge, writing, reading, crosswords and travelling. They enjoyed a great deal of travel throughout their lives with Marvin’s work in the oil well drilling industry. Because they both liked designing and decorating, Marvin and Joyce owned 12 homes in Canada and 12 homes in the USA during their lifetime. Later in life, Joyce helped Marvin write three personal life manuals for both the young and adults.
Joyce leaves to celebrate her life: her husband, Marvin Sawyer; sister, Viola Reles; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street in Edmonton. Committal of the urn will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 5420-106 Street, Edmonton.
Donations in Joyce’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Family and friends are asked to remember Joyce as they knew and loved her.
