Dad, you slipped away from us. We love you and will miss you! Memories of you and the impact that you had on our lives will be forever etched in our minds!
Bank manager for many years in rural communities, Dad generously contributed his time and effort to various local groups. He loved golf, curling, and most of all, bridge – playing, at the age of 90, three times a week – arriving by bus, bike, or 50 minute walk.
Actively involved in the church, Dad also strongly believed in political engagement and in promoting justice and fairness.
The phone, newspaper, and television played an important role in Dad’s life as he sought to remain connected to those from his early years and to keep up with the world around him.
Survived by his children, Heather (Jim Mullins), Georgina (Darrell Martindale), Bruce (Rachel Haines), Janis (Gareth Longsworth); eight grandchildren; great grandchild; brother Russ; sister-in-law Ellen; relatives on both sides of the family, and many cherished friends. Dad is predeceased by his beautiful wife Dorothy (2009); brothers Dave (Madeleine) and Murray, and sister-in-law Hazel.
Many thanks to Riverbend United Church who warmly welcomed him into their community these past 10 years and who lovingly embraced and cared for Dad when he had his stroke.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Riverbend United Church, 14907-45 Ave, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riverbend United Church Mission and Service Fund.
