Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Yvonne Maxine Simpson passed away with her family by her side on August 12, 2015 at the age of 94 years.
Yvonne will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children Michael (Noot), Patrick (Bev), Judy (Alex), Duane (Geri), Karen (Mike), Grant (Val) and Maureen; sister Patricia Witham; grandchildren Akiko, Kazuhei, Judi, Darcy (Kim), Darren (Nicole), Danny (Megan), Lowell, Sarah (Aaron), Pamela, Megan (Will) and Evan; great Grandchildren: Lachlan, Molly, McKinna, Eilidh, Ciaran, Logan and Ashley; plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandchildren Jay and Matthew; and her parents Alfred and Mary Fisher.
Yvonne was born in Edmonton on January 3, 1921. She was a very bright child, skipping two grades and entering high school at the age of 12, receiving the Lt. Governors’ Award for top marks in the Province of Alberta. She moved to Vancouver with her family and entered Pitman Secretarial College in 1933. During the Depression, Yvonne worked in a record store as well as her parents’ corner store until the war broke out. She joined the Canadian Military and worked as a plotter on the west coast of Vancouver Island. While in the military, she met and married our Dad in 1945. Yvonne was dedicated to raising her seven children. Her pickles, jams and preserves were without equal. She had many artistic talents including drawing, copper tooling, needlepoint, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Yvonne was an amazing gardener and was to known to many as The Flower Lady. She was a dedicated Mom and caregiver to our sister Maureen well into her later years and was one of the founders of the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation, ensuring Maureen would be well cared for long after mom was gone. We loved her deeply and she will forever live on in our hearts.
Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Avenue in St. Albert on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lo-Se-Ca Foundation, 215 Carnagie Drive, St. Albert, AB T8N 5B1 would be appreciated.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Citadel Mews West and Unit 27 at the Sturgeon Community Hospital. Your caring and support for our Mom will always be remembered.
