On October 21, 2015, Panagiotis "Peter" Sgouromitis of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 88 years after a brave battle with cancer.
Born in Gythion Lakonia, Greece in 1927, he grew up as a fisherman with his parents, Efthimios and Anastasia and 7 brothers in his beloved village of Gythion. Peter served his country in both WWII and the Greek Civil war. In 1957 he immigrated to Canada where he met his wife Gotta and started a family in Edmonton, Alberta. He worked with pride across Northern Alberta as a commercial painter. Dad was a rock for all of us to hold onto for he was steadfast and unfailing in his beliefs. He will be missed as a father, grandfather and friend.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Henrietta (Javaid) Naqvi; son, Conrad (Debbie) Springer, daughter, Rosemarie Ivanovic;son, Rocky (Kathy) Springer; daughter, Pitsa Sgouromitis (Konstandinos Niavis); son, Ephimios George Sgouromitis (Sarah Lazechko); 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Stelios and Nicolas; as well as many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gotta (nee Litke); father, Efthimios; mother, Anastasia; brothers, Kyriakos, John, George, Dimosthenis and Antonis; son, Rod Springer and son-in-law, Bob Ivanovic.
