Caroline died peacefully supported by family and friends at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Edmonton on February 27, 2016.
Caroline was a devoted nurse, graduating from the University of Alberta in 1946. She worked at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary for many years. She was an inspiration to many due to her compassionate, exemplary care. Caroline’s devotion extended to family as well; over the years, she provided loving support to her sisters, Irene Lotocki, Susan Myers and Betty Newson near the time of their passing.
Caroline loved classical music and theatre, and enjoyed sharing the experience of music with others. She was a keen bridge player, a cat lover and she especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends with Les. She will be missed by her family and also by her friends who live in the Galleria.
Special thanks to niece, Lori Stuber; son-in-law, Doug McLaren; neighbours, Allison Read and Trent Sohnle; and kittens, Jasmine and Arya for the thoughtful and loving care they provided in the last weeks of Caroline’s illness.
Caroline was predeceased by her husband, Leslie (Les) McManus; and daughter, Phyllis McLaren. Caroline is survived by son, Richard Paley of Calgary; son-in-law, Douglas McLaren of Edmonton; grandson, David McLaren (Kristen); great-granddaughter, Mia of Edmonton; sisters, Nadya Gougnin of Philadelphia and Diana Pyrch of Camrose; brother, Timothy Pyrch (Jeannette) of Calgary; step-daughters, Louise Eccleston and Nola (Rod) Hardie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 12, 2016 at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 St, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Caroline’s name to the charity of your choice.
