It is with heavy hearts that the family announces that William "Murray" Varty, of Edmonton, passed away on April 12, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Murray was an oilfield pioneer and entrepreneur, proud father and grandfather and most important loving husband to Beth for 70 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Beth; children, Sandra (Bob), Karen, Warren (Jan), Jill and Jamey (Lori); seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, as well as extended family and many dear friends.
Murray will always be remembered for his lifelong love affair with good scotch and good food. The stories he told about the good old days, hardships and hard work and how, even if he could, he wouldn’t have changed a thing, is his lasting legacy for generations to come.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Carlson at the University of Alberta Hospital, for their care of Murray during his time there.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following, a Celebration of Murray’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Foster and McGarvey Downtown Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton, with reception to follow.
