of Edmonton
Oct 26, 1925 - Apr 30, 2016
On April 30, 2016, at the age of 90, Alan left this life the way he lived it, gently and with dignity joining his beloved wife Vera in our Lord's care.
He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memory 3 children, Jim (Karla), Shirley (Reg) and Barbara (Ron); 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Gillian, William, Anna, Amy, Laura, Graeme, James, Sarah and Henry; 3 great-grandchildren, Tiana, Teagen and Henry; brother-in-law ,James F. Hole; sisters-in-law, Muriel Hole and Ada Hole; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alan was born in Edmonton, the only child of Eva Florence and James William Pratt. He attended Oliver School and Victoria High School where he met his future wife Vera. After high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served until the completion of the Second World War. He then began a career with AGT (now Telus) which lasted for 37 years until his retirement.
He and Vera enjoyed many activities that involved family and friends: football games, fishing trips, antique auctions, holiday get-togethers, card and board games, and time at the lake. Alan had many and varied talents and interests: painting, drawing, woodworking, stamp collecting and reading to name a few. With his quiet, polite and soft spoken ways he set an example and gained the respect of friends, colleagues, and family. Alan's greatest accomplishments were his devoted partnership with his wife and the legacy of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Athabasca House at the Capital Care Kipnes Centre for Veterans for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Alan's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Anglican Parish of Christ Church, 12116-102 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Edmonton Community Foundation 9910- 103 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5K 2V7 or the charity of one's choice.
