It is with sadness that the family of Caroline McNicoll announces her passing after a brief stay in hospital. Caroline passed away peacefully at the Capital Care Norwood Palliative Care unit on August 12, 2016 at the age of 90.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brian and Elizabeth (Mark); her daughter-in-law, Edna; four grandchildren: Howie Jr. (Tyanne), LeeAnne (Dave), David and Mia; her brother, John (Muriel) Munro in Glasgow; brothers-in-law, Don McNicoll and Pat (Yvonne) McNicoll; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends and neighbours.
Caroline was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Howard, and her son Howard.
Caroline was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Allenby Chapter; a Member of the Scottish Official Highland Dancing Board, a Life Member of the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance, The Alberta Highland Dancing Association, the Edmonton Highland Dancing Association, and the Edmonton Scottish Society.
After marrying How, a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, in 1945 Caroline embarked for Canada in May of 1946. She celebrated her 90th birthday in April, and the 70th anniversary of her arrival in Canada in May of this year.
Special thanks to the staff at Capital Care Norwood, Palliative Care unit, to the nursing staff of Station 52, RAH for their care and compassion, the Cross Cancer Institute, and to Dr. Albert Yeung and his staff for their assistance and caring over these many years.
A Memorial Service will be held for Caroline at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Foster and McGarvey Funeral home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
