On January 6, 2018, Daniel slipped away peacefully at 106 years of age.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, of 79 years, Bertha; son, Don (Lillian) of Winnipeg; 6 granddaughters, Mariann (Jason), Margo (Jarick), LaRae (Doug), Lana (Leigh), Carmen (Rob), Karen (Richard); 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dan was pre-deceased by his daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Ferdinand; his parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Dan will always be remembered as a "people person", who was involved in many community activities. He was employed by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, as a grain buyer for 13 years and Superintendent for 27 years. His many contributions and achievements include: President & charter member of Prince Albert East Hill Community Club, Parade Marshal of the Commercial Traveler’s Annual parade in Humboldt, member of the Knights of Columbus, Chair of the Home & School Association in Humboldt, Charter member and president of Kiwanis Club in Swift Current (SC), President of SC Senior’s Association, President of SC Toastmasters Club, SC Credit Union board member for 15 years, Lifetime supporter of Co-operative organizations, President of a condo development in SC, Sold Real Estate, and produced and moderated a series of Senior TV programs in SC.
Dan was the recipient of several awards which include: The Order of Merit from the SC Chamber of Commerce, The Order of Merit from the City of Swift Current, Toastmaster’s Saskatchewan Provincial Award 1968, and in 1992 he received the Gov. General Award for service to Canadian Communities over the years.
Dan loved to entertain with jokes, tricks and music, and was involved with many orchestras and bands over the years. His motto was: " I like to make people laugh and smile, I don’t like to see people unhappy".
The family would like to thank Dr. C. Lee and the staff at Leduc Community Hospital for the care provided during Dan’s last months.
