Jana Grigar-Lamacova died on Friday, September 29, 2018 in her beautifully curated home with a garden that she cared for so tenderly. Daughter of Jan and Josefina Lamac, Jana immigrated to Canada from Prague following the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. September 19th marked her 50-year anniversary since she and her brother took the brave decision to leave their homeland and start life anew in Canada. Given her language skills, she was hired immediately by the government to assist her compatriots in the process of emigration. She reveled in the beauty of Alberta’s sky, and her open heart and cheerful laughter captured the attention of all those who knew her. The friendships she forged sustained her throughout the light and dark times of her life, as well as her love and devotion to her two daughters and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Klara (Ken) James; their two children Kendra and Alexander; her daughter Kay (Leonid Teleshevsky) Grigar; their son Leo; her brother Karel (Margaret) Lamac; and her nieces Jennifer and Rebecca. A celebration of Jana’s remarkable life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5 2018, at Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, AB. She will be cremated, and her remains will be buried alongside her beloved parents in Prague at a later date in November.
