of St. Albert
Aug 7, 2019
With deep sorrow, but buoyed by our faith, we say good-bye to our mother, June Louise Hill, who left this world on August 7, 2019 at the age of 89 years. June had an incredible love of living that endured even after her cancer diagnosis. She exceeded her proposed life expectancy and went on to survive for an additional two years. June said that she couldn't go, she had too much left to do.
June spent the final nine weeks of her life in the outstanding care of the Foyer Lacombe Hospice "family" in St. Albert. The Hospice staff surrounded and supported our mother with a circle of unconditional love. We are very grateful for their kindness.
June was the beloved wife of Fred Andrew Hill who predeceased her in 1975. She will always live in the hearts of her daughters, Lynda (Terry) Gibson and Marcia (Ken) Loder. She adored her five grand children, Ryan (Tal), Rebecca (Kara), and Rachel (Alex) Gibson, Lauren nee Loder (Tristan) Patterson and Scott Loder. Two great grandchildren provided her with an immeasurable amount of joy, three year old Madeleine Patterson, and eight month old Arjan Gibson. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister in law, Janie (Hill) Worel and numerous nieces and nephews.
June was born to Couronna (Mainville) and Carl Nattrass, the fifth youngest of six children, all of them boys. She was predeceased by her brothers Merle, Earl, Sheldon, Ralph and Gordon. Raised in Gainsborough Saskatchewan during the dirty 30's and forced to cope with the antics of her brothers, June developed strong survival skills which would serve her well in the coming years.
Fred's military career led the family to various parts of Canada and Europe. Living abroad peaked her thirst for further travels in her later life to places such as China, Greece, Mexico, France and the US.
June's first position at the University of Alberta was with the Law Faculty as an Administrative Assistant. Moving onward in her work at the University, she advanced to the positions of Executive Secretary for the University Ombudsman, Departmental Secretary in the Chemistry Department, then to Office Services Supervisor in the Comptroller's Office.
Looking for a new challenge, June decided to serve her beloved City of Edmonton as a Realtor and Alberta Marriage Commissioner. She was passionate about working with people - either to market their home or to find purchasers the perfect nest. June thrived on learning new things, and enjoyed sharing her extensive knowledge of the business of real estate with anyone who expressed an interest.
Performing marriage ceremonies in the capacity of an Alberta Marriage Commissioner gave June the opportunity to meet hundreds of couples, and to share in the joy newlyweds experience, as they exchange their marriage vows.
Lynda and Marcia invite you to join in her "Celebration of Life" which will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton. Come and share some of your memories and experiences that you enjoyed with our incredible mother, June Hill.
Flowers graciously declined.
