Chandra Peacock, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on October 11, 2019 at the age of 90 years.
Chandra was born in the Province of Hyderabad Sind, India in 1928. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in History, from Bombay University in 1950 and was later employed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation in the capacity of Senior Executive Secretary to the Regional Director.
In July of 1958, Chandra immigrated to London, England where she met the love of her life, Ian. It was a world wind romance and when Ian received a job in Kumasi, Ghana he proposed to Chandra who joined him there and they were married in March, 1961. In July of that year the newly weds returned to London via Barcelona where they enjoyed a lovely honeymoon.
The world adventures were far from over, as in 1967 the family immigrated to Canada. In May 1968, Chandra began her work as the secretary for Strathearn United Church where she provided over 20 years of devoted service, retiring in 1988. Chandra enjoyed her retirement years by taking computer classes, working on oil paintings, drawing, and visiting with beloved friends and family.
Chandra is survived by her husband Ian, her daughter Melanie (Cam Simpson), grandson Eric, granddaughter Miranda and step-granddaughter Joely. As well, Chandra is survived by many other family members who will forever hold her in their memories.
Chandra specifically wanted those reading these words to know that it was the gift of family and friends that enriched her life. Those precious times that she held dear to her heart could never be replaced, neither by time nor by all the wealth in the world.
In keeping with Chandra’s wishes there will be no funeral service. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Chandra may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
