Nov 5, 2019
On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, our Heavenly Father called to himself our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joanne Tolsma, at the age of 92. Joanne will be missed but lovingly remembered by her five sons, Art (Helen), Fred (Netty), Rick (Sharon), Brian (Carolyn) and Irwin (Yvonne); 30 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren. Also to cherish her memory is her brother, Arnold Dykstra; as well as nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Uilke; granddaughter, Nicole; five sisters and one brother. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Lynnwood and Citadel Care Centre for the care and kindness shown to Mom.
Joanne (Hannie), mom was born in Broek, Friesland on July 22, 1927. She was raised on a busy and hardworking dairy farm with five sisters and two brothers. Mom met Uilke (dad) through young peoples
outings at church and married him on December 5, 1950. Shortly after, they sailed off to Canada where they raised five boys in Edmonton,
Alberta. Mom was dedicated to her family, especially raising them in the fear and service of the Lord. Her joy was studying and discussing the scriptures and its doctrinal contents. She loved having fun and playing games with whoever was willing; her favorite game was
Rummikub. Later, when the boys grew up and when dad retired, they enjoyed travelling to Holland and Brazil to spend time with family. After being married for 62 wonderful years, dad passed away. We will always remember mom’s smile, words of encouragement, her lively spiritual discussions and most of all, her love and dedication to her Lord and Savior.
