Mar 30, 1925 - Jun 3, 2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Scholotiuk on June 3, 2020 at the age of 95 years.
Nick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 66 years, Audrey; children, Alan (Pamela) and Gord (Adele); grandchildren, Elaine (Blake) Buschau, Richard (Kelly Ollenberg), Nicholas (Debrah Davidson), Andrew (Breanna); step grandchildren, Katherine (Jim) Weir, Nanette Warman (Mark Loveseth); great grandchildren, Decklan and Keira Scholotiuk, Colby and Cailee Buschau; step great grandchildren, Kyla Nadeau, Gavin Turlock, and Matthew Weir. Nick also leaves behind his sister, Doris Alexandriuk; brother-in-law, Gary (Edythe) Frohlich; sisters-in-law, Olga Socholotuik, Frances Winczura; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Nick was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta, the third eldest in a family of six brothers and two sisters. After completing his schooling, Nick worked at various farm jobs and at the age of 18 years, enlisted in the Canadian Army. After his discharge in 1946, Nick resumed civilian life and worked in logging camps, worked as a painter, dairy delivery driver and then went into carpentry.
In 1954 he married Audrey and together they had two sons.
As a carpenter, he worked on various projects which included civic and municipal buildings in the northern half of Alberta. As time went on, Nick moved into superintendent positions until his retirement. He was very proud of the various construction projects that he worked on.
Throughout his life, Nick kept busy with various types of projects. He always enjoyed helping others with renovations, and also built cabins, and garden sheds in addition to completing renovation projects at home. He was also a passionate crib player and enjoyed bowling and floor curling at the Calder Seniors Centre.
Nick was especially proud of his family and took special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visits were always extra special to him and his eyes would light up every time. At times, he would be seen down on the living room carpet or in the backyard involved in whatever activity the grandchildren or great grandchildren were doing.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summerwood Village and Chartwell Emerald Hills in Sherwood Park for their professional and compassionate care of Nick.
Cremation has taken place and as per Nick’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
