It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of James Noel Gauthier announce his passing on Sunday, August 2nd, 2020 at the age of 89 from complications due to cancer.
He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Isabel; daughters, Kimberly and Patricia; son, Stephen; four grandsons, Kevin, Tyler, Jason and Mark; sisters: Rilly , Mary, Genny, Vivian and brother Stuart.
Noel was predeceased by his parents, Geneva and Emile Gauthier; brother Patrick and sister Jeanette.
Noel was born and raised in North Rustico, PEI. He then went on to attend St. Joseph’s University in Moncton, N.B. prior to joining the Royal Canadian Air Force on the 13th of March 1951 where he served for 28 years. On his retirement from the military in December 1979, he continued working for the Federal Government as a public servant until retirement in December 1992.
During his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force he travelled to many different countries while stationed at 4 Wing in Germany; as well as travelling and being stationed at units across Canada with his final retirement as a Warrant Officer from the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Edmonton.
Noel was a dedicated member of his Masonic Lodge and served as Master of Avon Glen Lodge No. 170 in 1992. He was a proud Shriner with the Al Shamal Shrine and as Drill Master Emeritus of the Arab Patrol Marching Unit.
Noel was a hard worker and a dedicated family man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed golfing, curling, hockey, and baseball. He also enjoyed the many motor home travels to Arizona and favourite spots in Canada.
Noel was a big man with a big heart that matched his warm smile and twinkling blue eyes. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will be forever in our hearts.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Royal Alexander Hospital Unit 53 and the Palliative Care Unit – 9Y – at the Edmonton General Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during Noel’s final days.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
