It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Gordon Kartz of Edmonton passed away on December 24th. Gordon will be profoundly missed by his loving partner, Barbara; his daughters Ellen, Michelle [Neil]; his son Charles [Ashley]; grandson Jace; step daughter, Amanda [Kelly]; step granddaughters, Jenna [Gabriel] and Shelby;his sisters, Marg and Debbie [Bob]; his brothers, Randy [Shauna] and Daryl [Debbie]. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to grieve his loss. Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine; his mother, Erica; his father, Edwin; his sisters, Kathy and Sandy.
Born in Edmonton but brought up on a farm in Ellerslie, Gordon always professed to be a "country mouse". However, early in his life, he developed a fascination with radio and broadcasting and he made a career in that field, spending much of his working life at CFRN/CTV as a broadcast technician. Until the onset of his illness, Gordon was remarkably active and fit. He was an intrepid hiker, a skier, a cyclist and a runner participating in dozens of road races as well as the Grande Cache Death Race. He was extremely skilled in "fixing things" be they cars, tractors, electronic equipment or anything else that came his way. Although he started late, he came to love travelling and his visits to Europe, Africa and South America were highlights of his life. Gordon was also an avid biker and took many trips on his motorcycle [with his friend Brian] through western Canada and the USA.
Gordon was a kind and gentle man who treated others with great respect. He will be fondly remembered as having a brilliant sense of humour, being an adventurous nomad, being a musical soul and being a strong force always willing to help. He leaves a great wake and his profound impact will live on in the lives that he touched.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at a later time. Donations may be made in his name to the Edmonton Food Bank
