It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Chenard. She passed peacefully in St. Albert, March 2, age 81.
Elizabeth was born September 24, 1939, the second oldest of 11 children to Donat and Cecile Sylvestre. She grew up on the family farm in Tangent, Alberta. Shortly after graduating high school in Eaglesham, she met Aristide Chenard. They married September 2, 1958 and settled north of Tangent to farm and raise their family. Farm life was very busy, raising young kids along with helping with seeding and harvest. She enjoyed canning, gardening and berry picking. Elizabeth loved cooking and was very skilled at sewing and beading. Her hands were seldom idle! There were also plenty of fun times with family and friends. Dancing, singing, camping, snowmobiling, fishing, riverboating, hunting and elaborate picnics in the woods were some of her favorite activities. After retiring lakeside in Joussard, Art and Elizabeth travelled and had many adventures in Costa Rica, France, the Bahamas, Las Vegas as well as winters in Phoenix, Mexico and fishing trips to the West Coast. Her passion for gardening and flowers, and her love of creating kept her busy at the lake for over 30 years. She loved spending time with family and watching the amazing lake sunsets gave her a sense of calm and peace. She was kind, always had time to listen, and proudly enjoyed showing off her latest crafting creations!
Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Aristide, 6 children, Gisele Chenard (Valerian Dias) Claire (Brian) Lucko , Evelyne Chenard (Brian Pelechytik), Gilles (Carla) Chenard , Marc (Suzanne) Chenard , Suzanne (Aaron) Krysak , 13 grandchildren and 9 great - grandchildren.
Her legacies of lovingly creating things by hand, as well and both playing scrabble, gardening and growing flowers have been passed down to her children and beyond. She was very loved; we are thankful for all the memories and she will be dearly missed.
A private funeral mass will be held.
If so desired, donations in Elizabeth's memory may be made to SACHA (St. Albert Sturgeon Hospice Association Compassionate Care Volunteer Program).
