Luitjen Jan [Lloyd] was born on February 12 1930 in Zuid Laarn, the Netherlands. He was the eldest son of Pieter and Marchiena Westra.
At the age of 20 he immigrated to Canada arriving first to his Uncles farm at Nobleford Alberta and then settling in Lethbridge.
On October 28,1954, he married Nettie Vanderbeek in Lethbridge and the next year welcomed their first daughter, Barbara. Lloyd and Nettie moved to Calgary and were blessed with another daughter, Linda in 1957 and son Ronald 1958. Sadly, Ronald passed away in 1959. The family moved again, this time to Edmonton where their son Kenneth was born in 1962 and daughter Donna in 1967.
Lloyd started his career as a food broker in 1959 and in 1980 Lloyd and Nettie they started their own successful Food Brokerage firm, West Van Brokers and operated it until they retired in 1990.
In retirement Lloyd discovered the joy of travel and the internet. He planned many trips, booking the flights hotels and cars acting as his own travel agent. He loved to research their destination and plan a great trip. Lloyd and Nettie traveled to Europe, British Isles, Hawaii and took cruises, but their favourite trips were exploring the United States. They have been to all but two states.
The last year was a year of change. The family home was sold and Lloyd and Nettie moved into a beautiful new condo in the Emmanuel Home. It was a perfect home for their last move. New friends were made and another special church family welcomed them.
