(Maiden: McIntosh)
of Edmonton
Norma was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up there with her parents, Louisa and William McIntosh, and siblings Lyall, Isabel, William, and Grant. Norma was trained as a stenographer. She worked at the Great West Saddlery in Winnipeg. It was there she met her future husband, Vern in 1940. Vern served in World War II and when he returned to Winnipeg, they were married on April 5, 1946.
A few months later, they moved to Edmonton, Alberta and here they started a family. As a homemaker, Norma was active in her church life, and as a volunteer in the Lendrum community. Norma and Vern had opportunities to travel, including several trips to Hawaii and Florida. Norma and Vern shared a passion for golf and bridge. In retirement, they led a very popular bridge class at Strathcona Place, where they made many good friends. With cards and telephone calls, Norma always kept in touch with friends and family. In recent years, when Norma moved to new homes, she made an effort to meet new people and to know their names.
Norma was much loved by her children: Marilyn (Wayne) Lysons of Tofield, Alberta, Cameron (Barbara) Ward, of Nipomo, California, and Lorraine (Brian) Taylor of Darwell, Alberta. She took great pleasure in visiting with her six grandchildren: Pamela and Ian, Owen and Shannon, Brendan, and Alastair, and her eight great-grandchildren: Bethany, Stephani, Joshua, Marlee, Sullevyn, Felix, Jane, and three-month old, Avery.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Vernon of 68 years, and all her siblings. Norma is survived by her sister-in-law, Diana McIntosh of Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with many other family members and very dear friends.
On behalf of Norma's family, we thank the loving staff at Lifestyle Options Riverbend and Good Samaritan Southgate Care Centre for their kind care for Norma.
