Obituary

Victor Johannesen

In Loving Memory of

Victor Johannesen

of Edmonton

On May 10, 2022, Victor Johannesen passed away at age 69, with his favourite person in the world at his side - his wife of 45 years, Betty. Vic was a loving and loyal (if sometimes stubborn) husband, a deeply beloved (if sometimes exasperating) father, a hilarious Opa, a dear brother, and a treasured friend. Vic lived and died in the blessed assurance that he belonged body and soul to his faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.

Vic loved to laugh. He loved a deal. He told great jokes, had a strong moral compass, and worked his whole life to practice a generosity he fervently believed in but didn't feel came naturally to him. We loved him. And we will miss him so very much.

Victor is lovingly remembered by his wife Betty, as well as his many children, in-laws, and grandchildren: Shauna and James Danderfer - (Samuel), Leida, Calvin; Larissa and Geoff Vogan - Kaiya, Byron, Bryce, Jude; Alison and Dave Snaterse - Mea, Madison, Mateo; Jared and Jenna Johannesen - Kelson, Simon, Livia, Finnigan; Kathryn and Tim Pasma - Leo, Emerson, Ashton, Isla; Melanie and Andrew DeVries - Jovi, Jager, Nico. He also leaves behind his sister Monique Pelletier, his brother Rick and Gigi Johannesen, and his brother Fred Johannesen.

Vic loved light. He originally trained as an electrician but felt the Edmonton winters were a sign that he should bring light to the world from the indoors. In 1979 he started KVR Electric with his father Keld and brother Rick, and in 1980 they bought Park Lighting. Under Vic's steering, Park Lighting in Edmonton and later Cartwright Lighting in Calgary became the largest lighting stores in Western Canada and a cherished family business we all took part in.

Vic was immensely proud of his work, as well as how it enabled him to give back to many causes close to his and Betty's hearts. He brought light to the world (and he would hate that we're writing this in his obituary, but it is true.)

Victor is now resting in the light of his Lord and Saviour, free, full of grace, and deeply beloved.

A funeral will be held at West End Christian Reformed Church, 10015 149 Street Edmonton, on Wednesday, May 18 at 1:00 pm.
