It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our family matriarch, Corry van Soest.
Corry (Oma) passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the early morning of June 25, in Edmonton, only two months before her 90th birthday. She is now free from the cross of Alzheimer's and will once again be able to dance with her husband, John (2003), lovingly embrace her daughter, Yvonne (1996), and tease her son-in-law, Ben Correlje (2022).
Corry was born "Maria Cornelia Johanna" in the Netherlands where she grew up with her six sisters and one brother, met the love of her life and future husband, John, married him in 1954, and immediately immigrated to Canada to start her new life. Her life's work included: 8 children, 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, thousands of hours of volunteering, knitting, card playing, and laughter. Corry was a devout Catholic whose faith was the foundation of her life, and family was more important than life itself.
Affectionately known as Oma to most of her family and friends, she was a much loved wife, mother, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Corry will be dearly missed and forever treasured by her children: Marlie Correlje, Anita Gaylard, John (Shannon) van Soest, Frank (Anne) van Soest, Teresa (Bernie) Wanat, Robert (Lorraine) van Soest, Richard (Wynne) van Soest; son-in-law, Barry (Linda) Keohan; her
grandchildren: Megan, Ryan, Ashley, Jeff, Brad, Katie, Chris, Kristen, Jessica, Brittney, Kelsey, Matt, Adam, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Carlee, Eric, Scott, Krystina; and all her great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Annunciation Church (9420 - 163 Street) on July 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta, 10430 61 Ave NW #306, Edmonton, AB T6H 2J3.
