On Monday evening, January 2, 2023, Jack passed away after a two-year fight with Parkinson's disease.
Jack's life started on a small farm near Renfrew, Ontario. His mother Margaret, died in 1949 and when his father, John McLaughlin Barr, passed in 1954, Jack left the farm. His travels ended in Edmonton, where he met his future wife, Katherine (Betty) Jones. They married in 1956. In 1958, he began his long career working on coin-operated machines, from all mechanical to automated machines. He retired in 1997.
Jack and Betty had five children: Elaine Barr (Mark Wise) of Richmond, BC, David (Shar) of Stoney Creek, Ont, Patty Demchuk (Darrell), and Jim of Edmonton, and Kathy Brown (Len) of Wetaskiwin; seven grandchildren followed, and now there are three great grandchildren.
Jack and Betty enjoyed travelling by RV over much of Canada and USA; also to Australia, New Zealand the UK and Europe. They retired to their condo, where they have spent 10 years of their 66 years together.
Following Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral.
