It is with much sadness that the family of Gerrit Baay announce that our Dad and Opa passed away on March 13, 2023 at the age of 93. He was dearly loved and will be missed very much.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Andrea in 2016, his parents, six sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter Ada (George), his son Andre, granddaughters Janelle (Jason), Ashley, great grandsons Jack and Charlie and other relatives and friends.

Gerrit loved sports, especially his soccer team Feyenoord. He himself played semi pro soccer when he was young. He was also an avid traveller, travelling to many parts of the world. Although he lived in Canada for most of his life, a piece of his heart remained in the Netherlands. He was very proud of his country and always had many stories to tell about the country's achievements and its people.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the health care workers that took care of him. Many of them commented what a polite and funny man he was. He never complained and always had a thank you for everyone.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

A Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Homes, 10014 - 114 Street NW Edmonton

Internment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, 16310 Stony Plain Rd, Edmonton

Following the burial, a Reception will take place at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Homes 10014 - 114 St NW, Edmonton
