Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on May 3rd,2023, at the age of 100 years and 7 months. Edythe is survived by her son Nicholas Arscott (Frances Alty-Arscott); granddaughter, Lauren Arscott (Matthew Elliott); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Derek; and grandson, Jeffrey.
Edythe was born in North Bay, Ontario, where she grew up. It was there that she began her almost 50-year teaching career. Her love of teaching and her sense of adventure took her to the South of England in 1950, where she obtained a teaching position in the small sea-side town of Bexhill-On-Sea. It was there she met her life-long love,Derek. They were married in 1952 and had Nicholas in 1957. To provide a better future for the family, Edythe and Derek brought two-year-old Nicholas to Canada in 1959.
In her later years, among other things, Edythe volunteered at the Edmonton Max, reading with the inmates. She loved spending time with Derek at the family cabin in Smoky Lake where they spent much time - particularly with their two grandchildren. Unfortunately, Edythe became progressively more ill with Alzheimer's and had to move into a long-term care facility, where Derek visited daily. The family wishes to thank the staff of Devonshire Care Centre - particularly the 2nd floor nursing staff and health care aids who provided incredible care and love for Edythe in the last nine years of her long life.
Cremation has taken place in the care of Foster & McGarvey Funeral Home. A Private family Memorial will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edythe's name to the Alzheimer's Society (306, 10430 - 61 Avenue Edmonton Alberta T6H 2J3
) would be appropriate.
Arrangements entrusted to Foster & McGarvey Downtown Funeral Home.
