(Maiden: Aalitje Stiksma)
of Edmonton
Alice was born July 3, 1932, in Marum near Assen, Groningen, Netherlands, to Hendrik and Jantje (nee Donkerbroek) Stiksma. She met her childhood best friend for life, Ali Lanting, who married Rob Exalto later in their life. In her final days this is the person she remembered the most, as well as her brothers, Pete and Bonne.
Alice found the love of her life and married Mendert Oussoren in 1953, in Edmonton, Canada, where they had five wonderful children together: Jake, Hendrik (Andy), John, Wendy (Caroline), and Mary.
Alice was the last of her family's generation, she was predeceased by her parents; husband, Mendert; brothers: Klass, Bonne, Albert, Siepe (Siebren), Pete (Petreus); as well as daughter, Mary; son, John; and great grandchild, Gabriel.
Remembered by grandchildren: Pauline (nee Oussoren) married to Josh Watson, Michael (Mike), Ryan, John married to Glenda (nee Van Delden), Kristal, Kimberly, Kayla, Mary (nee Oussoren) was married to Glen MacDonald, Julia, Aaron, Sarah; in addition, several great-great-grandchildren. She will be forever missed by all family, friends, relatives, and acquaintances she met in her full life's journey.
Alice was always active in the church community. She enjoyed throughout her life, making beautiful flower gardens and kept her yard and house immaculate. Alice was a housekeeper and motel manager to family friend, Dr. John Smulski and wife, Marie. She participated in sports such as volleyball and bowling, and was a member of the church choir. She spent many hours knitting slippers and blankets, and enjoyed trips to the parks with her family. She made many excursions to visit her husband, Mendert, in his various out of town work locations, when he worked for Parkins construction. She loved animals and had many pets, welcoming any new arrivals with open arms. She traveled to Holland several times over the years, with a final trip to visit her best friend, Ali and husband, Rob and relatives, after Mendert passed. As well, Alice traveled to Australia to visit her daughter, Mary and grandchildren. She enjoyed several train excursions within Canada with Andy, including to her initial point of landing in Halifax. She loved her extended family very much and always made sure that she reached out and contacted everyone for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions.
Alice was well liked within her group of friends and church community. She was always helping out, whether it be family or church events and her home was always open for visitors to lend support. She was a very much appreciated custodian at the Parkland Immanuel Christian school for many years. She had a fantastic sense of humor and was always an uplifting spirit to others.
Alice always believed the Lord would always guide her and be her help, when times were tough, to her final days the Lord looked after her with a gentle peaceful passing.
