It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Richard Tolsma announce his peaceful passing on October 24, 2023, at the age of 66 years.
Doug leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Anita, and their 13 children, their spouses and children; Andrea (Pieter) Kalkman, Donald (Yvonne) Tolsma, Peter (Melissa) Tolsma, Tammy (Mike) Hanko, Joseph Tolsma, Jessica Tolsma, Jeffrey (Laura) Tolsma, Kimberly Tolsma, Lesley (Clinton) Meelker, Tanya (Thomas) Buiter, Kristi (Ethan) Kalsbeek, Gerrit Tolsma and Kayla (Aaron) Wierenga, along with 40 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Folkert and Gerda Tolsma; brothers, Arthur Tolsma, George Tolsma, as well as brother-in-law Lee Knoppers.
Doug was 4 years old when he moved to St. Albert, when his dad purchased land and started the family dairy farm. With his brother George, Doug continued the dairy until 1998, but then moved into bison farming. After his brother George passed, Doug continued the farm doing what he loved, even baling hay right until the day the Lord called him home.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4: 7,8
Doug strove to walk in the footsteps of his Lord and Savior. He was devoted to his family, especially his love for Anita and raising their 13 children.
He will be missed dearly by his entire family as their husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, rock and leader.
Funeral with take place Tuesday October 31, 2023, at the St. Albert Canadian Reformed Church 54203 Range Road 261 (Villeneuve Road), St. Albert, Alberta.
Viewing at the church, 9:00 am until 10:45am
Service begins at 11:00am, with a light lunch to follow.
The burial will take place at Westlawn Cemetery, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton at 2:45pm, all are welcome.
