John Charles �??Jack�?� Wright

of Edmonton

John Charles "Jack" Wright died peacefully at age 74, after a short hospital stay. He leaves behind his wife of more than 40 years, Susan; son, James (Erin); and grandsons, Jake and Charlie; son, Jeffrey (Tiffiney Bagnariol); and granddaughters, Jane and Grace; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bill Hendry of Victoria Harbour, ON; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.

Jack was born in Toronto, the eldest child of James and Arlene Wright, and grew up in Stayner. After attending Georgian College in Barrie, he began a successful career in banking, starting with TD Bank in the mid-1970s. His banking journey took him from Toronto to Edmonton in 1978, where he eventually met Susan. A transition to Lloyd's Bank led to a move to Red Deer in 1982. His time in Red Deer was productive, both in growing the branch and his family. He then transferred to Ottawa for two years before returning to Edmonton. Then, in a timely phone call with a former colleague, Jack learned about the launch of the Canadian Western Bank. He was immediately hired and dedicated 23 years of his career there. Jack cherished his time at CWB and maintained lasting friendships with his coworkers; once he retired, Jack would often meet up with them at the "clubhouse" for lunch together.

Outside of work, Jack gave his time and expertise as a board member of the Yellowhead Highway Association (now called Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association). His efforts together with his association colleagues were not only award-winning, they contributed to the twinning of an important stretch of highway between Edmonton and Jasper.

Spending winters in Palm Desert, Jack's summers were enjoyed at the family cabin on Amisk Lake. He could be found traveling the roads and trails on a quad or side-by-side and skimming across the water in the boat. As president of the Friends of Amisk Lake Society, he got to know other residents and ensured all community members enjoyed their time at and on the lake.

He was also a car enthusiast and collector, travelling to Barrett Jackson several times. He was the proud owner of a 1972 Chevy Nova and especially loved his impossible-to-miss purple 1941 Ford pickup, complete with flame detailing. Jack loved to take his grandchildren for rides and have them sit at the wheel for pictures. A dedicated husband, father, and granddad, Jack adored his family and extended family and would help them any way he could. He will be missed by many.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Derrick Golf & Winter Club, 3500 119 Street, Edmonton.
