Patricia Wishart, a lifelong learner who loved children, dogs, gardening, teaching, and exploring the great outdoors with her beloved family and friends, passed away peacefully on Feb. 13, 2024.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Joan Low. Pat is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill; children, David (Debby), Ian, Sandy (Wayne); three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt), Noah, Jenny; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Jo; nephews, James, Mark (Barb), Stephen (Claudine); nieces, Beth (Ian) and Karen; eight great-nieces and nephews; and three great great-nieces and nephews.

Pat was born in Hillcrest and moved to Calgary at a young age. A graduate of the University of Alberta, she taught elementary school in Calgary and Edmonton before becoming a mother. Pat combined her passions through her work at the John Janzen Nature Centre, taking thousands of children for nature walks starting in the late 1970s, and co-authoring the Knee High Nature series with Diane Hayley in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In 1988, she and her friend Jean Horne started the Wild Rose Ramblers, an Edmonton-based walking group. Pat led the Ramblers in publishing two guidebooks detailing dozens of walks in and around Edmonton. Pat advocated tirelessly to protect Edmonton's River Valley. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

A special thank-you to Pat and Bill's dear friends and neighbors, and to the staff at the Mel Miller Hospice at the Edmonton General Hospital for making Pat's last weeks as easy and comfortable as possible for both her and her loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Edmonton Nature Centers Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011-114 St. NW, Edmonton.
