of Edmonton
Aug 2, 2024

Frances “Fran” Marian Webster (nee Dakin) passed away peacefully and with dignity on Friday, August 2, 2024, surrounded by her three children in her beloved garden. She was 83 years young.

Born in 1941, in Kingston, Ontario, Fran was the middle of three daughters born to the late Thomas Russell Dakin and the late Evelyn Isabel Bull.

Fran attended the nursing program at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario (1960-63). It was during this time that she not only formed friendships with classmates that lasted throughout her lifetime, but she also met the love of her life, Charles Daryl Webster. The two were married on April 4, 1964, and were fortunate to share 46 loving years before he died in 2010.

Fran and Daryl lived briefly in London, Ontario, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, before settling in the Greenfield neighbourhood of Edmonton in 1968. Here they raised their two sons, Scott and Brent; and their daughter, Shona. Fran was active in her community and developed lifelong friendships.

Fran was always athletic and enjoyed skiing, curling, racquetball, and tennis. More recently, her focus was spending time with friends, playing pickleball and square dancing, going for walks, gardening, playing bridge and other games, and enjoying the company of her neighbours. Creativity was also an integral part of Fran’s life. Over the years her creative expression evolved to include cake decorating, calligraphy, photography, sewing, painting, flower arranging, card making, and scrapbooking her life adventures.

Fran is predeceased by her parents; husband, Daryl; and sister, Libby Jordan.

She has left countless memories for her family to treasure. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Scott (Gloria McKale) and Brent (Jacquie Eales); and her daughter, Shona Nichols (Darren Nichols); grandchildren, Drew Forward (Lisa), Brad Webster (Rachel Anthony), Marc Webster (Eman Osman), Jade Webster (Kylie Wayne), Alexander Nichols, Zoe Nichols, and Austin Webster; great-grandchildren, Ella and Henry Forward; sister, Wendy Corbett; brother-in-law, Duane Webster; and cousins, Bron, Tim, and Richard in New Zealand.

Fran felt extremely blessed and grateful to her many friends and family members for giving her such a good life. Thank you to the wonderful team of healthcare professionals that supported Fran over the years, and during her final days: Dr. Allison Theman, Dr. Monika Oliver, Pam Lavold (pharmacist), Infinity Healthcare, 5G4 staff at the University of Alberta Hospital, and the palliative care teams in both the community (Pod F) and the hospital.

A Memorial Service in Fran’s honour will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. MT, both online (https://ssucedmonton.com/live) and in person at Southminster-Steinhauer United Church (SSUC), 10740 19 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully received by Wellspring Cancer Support (https://wellspring.ca/alberta/ways-to-give/donate/), SSUC (https://ssucedmonton.com/donate), or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Foster & McGarvey Downtown Chapel.
