March 1951 - August 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Henry Stiksma on August 25, 2024, at the age of 73.
Henry is survived and dearly loved by his wife, Marcia; sons, Timothy (Natasha) and Justin (Alyssa); daughters, Claire (James) and Lisa (Michael); Pake to his beloved grandchildren: Hazel, Soren, Emil, Jasper, and Rosie; as well as sisters, Edith, Renie (Hank); and brother, Ed.
Henry was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Clara; brother, Harry; in-laws, Harry, April, and Penny; and his father-in-law, Herman.
Henry was born and raised in Edmonton but spent many years growing his career and family in the cities of Calgary, Medicine Hat, Terrace B.C., and finally Edmonton. From working in Imperial Oil’s Data Centre, to Home Hardware in Terrace, Degner Construction, and real estate. He finished his career as a funeral attendant and cemetery funeral coordinator.
Henry will always be remembered as an enthusiastic golf, hockey, and football fan, as well as a movie and music aficionado. He sang in many choirs and praise teams, and even enjoyed acting in Terrace Little Theatre. Over the last years many hours were spent listening to his favourite gospel singers, musicals, and folk musicians.
He will be dearly missed and remembered as an active member in his church and community. For 3 years Henry volunteered and served as chair of the First Mission Thrift Store until its closing. He was a dedicated blood donor at Canadian Blood Services, and volunteered on a mission project in Mexico, and later in The Dominican Republic and Nicaragua for EduDeo Ministries. The last few years Henry was very active in Summit Village Housing Cooperative that he and Marcia lived in. He served on many committees and was integral to making life great there.
He loved travelling and especially enjoyed visiting his family in the Netherlands. Without too much complaining, but lots of teasing, he was game to drive Marcia to many towns and graveyards of ancestors.
Henry loved to joke with and tease anyone, especially his grandchildren. His laughter and quick quips will live forever in our hearts. We are grateful for the years we could have him as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, family member, and friend. Henry will be truly missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
The Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church of St. Albert (12 Gate Avenue, St. Albert).
Memorial Donations may be made in Henry’s name toEduDeo Ministries.
