It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Johanna Wishart, a woman who opened her arms to all – “just as they were” – with love, respect, and acceptance.
Johanna, “Jo,” was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Vernon Wishart. She is survived by her children: James, Beth (Ian), Mark (Barb), Karen, Stephen (Claudine); eight grandchildren: Matthew (Mariya), Heather (Justin), Aaron, Daniel, Brianne (Tyler), Zoë, Charlotte, Faith; and three great-grandchildren: Grace, Jaycen, and Ivan.
A Memorial Service will be held for Johanna at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Church (11526 76 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB). A livestream of the service will be available for virtual participation by clicking here.
Johanna worked beside her husband, Vernon, over 60 years as they exercised their Christian ministry together. Their ministry in India with the Student Christian Movement from 1963 to 1968 was a formative part of their service to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Together they also ministered to the congregations of Garneau United Church (Edmonton, AB), Erskine & American United Church (Montreal, QC), and St. Paul’s United Church (Grande Prairie, AB). In addition to her service to family, church, and community, Jo also earned an MSW in Social Work and served clients in Montreal, Grande Prairie, and Edmonton.
Jo passed away gently on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Pilgrims Hospice in Edmonton, AB. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to those who cared so tenderly for Jo in the sunset of her life at the Rosedale Manor and Villa, and the Pilgrims Hospice. She recognized each caregiver by name, and they were a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Edmonton’s Bissell Centre, Pilgrims Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
