of Edmonton, Alberta
Oct 28, 2024
With deep sorrow in our hearts, we announce the tragic passing of Ronald Diotte of Edmonton, Alberta on October 28, 2024, at the age of 83 years.
He will be dearly missed by his children: Raili Ruttan (Dean), Eva Parlee (Harold), James Anthony Diotte; his younger brother, Kerry (Clare Denman); sister, Lynda Porter Boyko Diotte and her daughter, Eden Watson (Mike), as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving, devoted wife of 57 years, Irma; parents, Helen and Anthony “Tony” Diotte; brother, Robert “Bob” Diotte; and sister, Karen Smith Charpentier.
Ronald was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was the second of 5 children born to Helen and Anthony “Tony” Diotte. As a child, he was actively involved in the Sea Scouts of Canada alongside his older brother, Bob. His musical aspirations led him to learn the violin and then electric and acoustic guitars, which he loved. Ronald attended high school at Sault Collegiate Institute before going on to Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto, to learn the craft of television and radio repair. He worked for a time on the Algoma Central Railway as a brakeman and at Algoma Steel Corporation. In later years, his real working-life passion was the 30+ years he spent driving for Edmonton Transit.
He was a deeply religious man with a kind heart and quiet way. The family finds comfort knowing he is no longer in pain and is reunited with Irma, the love of his life.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to all the staff at the University of Alberta ICU and Critical Care Unit for their compassion and care.
At Ronald’s request, there will be no service taking place.
Arrangements entrusted to Foster & McGarvey Downtown Funeral Home.
