On Sunday, June 19, 2011, Merle Desmond MacDonald passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness, at St. Jospeh’s Auxillary Hospital with his family by his side.Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Dorothy; three children, Merle Jr. MacDonald, Belinda (Gordon) Schroder and Mark MacDonald; three grandchildren, Ashley (Peter) Eckert, Joshua (Brittnay) Schroder, and Lawrence MacDonald; three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Jackson and Natalie as well as soon-to-be Baby Girl in August; sister, Theresa (Jim) Cooper; cousin Jack (Aileen) MacDonald and many dear friends.Merle was predeceased by his youngest son, Douglas Michael; his parents, two brothers and one sister.Merle spent over 50 years working in the oilfield business and was proud of the company he built and ran for more than 20 years, MacDonald Oilfield Equipment. He was a proud member of the Derrick and Windermere Clubs where he loved to play golf. Merle enjoyed playing cards and woodworking, but more than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his close knit family. A Graveside Service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Beechmount Cemetery, 12420-104 Street, Edmonton, AB. He will be interred with his son, Douglas. In Merle’s memory, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute - Prostate Cancer, 11560 University Avenue Northwest, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.
