Although the essence of all that was this amazing human being left us on Sunday, October 9, when she suffered a brain aneurysm, Donna’s corporeal being didn’t leave until Sunday, October 16, when she passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and closest friends. She leaves to mourn and miss her forever her beloved mother, Rose; her siblings, Bernice, Rosalind, Randy (Marie), and Gayle; her nephew, Aaron (Heather) and nieces, Stephanie (Sean), and Christine; and grand-nephew, Rylan; and her closest friends, Liz and Tricia. She was predeceased by her father, Neil, and in July by her beloved Cocoa. Donna will be remembered not only for her selflessness, generosity, and kindness to friends and family but also for her many accomplishments during her too-short life. She was genuinely committed to helping the Alberta health care system achieve the excellence that she knew it could. All of us who sat by Donna’s bedside for the past week want to express our deepest gratitude and admiration to the staff of units 4A4 and 4A2 at the U of A Hospital. Their compassion and care is the true testament to the health of Alberta’s emergency care system. Because of Donna’s love of gardening, flowers will be welcomed at the gathering to be held in her honour at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home. Or donations in memory of Donna may be made to Doctors Without Borders. Ciao bella, Donna. The abduction was clean and swift. I never knew what took me. I’m still awaiting my return.
