It is with a profound sense of sadness that we announce the passing of Ian Awid on November 5 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Ian died peacefully, far too young at the age of 57, his family at his side. He will forever be remembered by his sons Sean (Kristen) and Cody (Brittani), his sister nephew Darrell Litaea, great-nephew Alexsander, along with numerous aunts and uncles. Ian was predeceased by his parents, Alex and June Awid. Ian Darrell Awid was born on May 1, 1954 in Edmonton. He graduated from Ross Sheppard Composite, went to the University of Alberta and worked at Safeway for many years before being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Ian spent the last five years of his life at the Dickensfield Capital Care facility, and Ian's family would sincerely like to thank the staff there for their caregiving. Ian was an avid sports fan, watching countless Eskimos and baseball games and golf on TV. His middle name, Darrell, was after former Eskimos' coach, Darrell Royal. Ian loved watching Sean and Cody play hockey and would be up early driving them to their games. He was athletically challenged, except he could swim like a fish, spending his younger day at Mameo Beach, then loved his time in Hawaii in the winter months. When he tired of the ocean, you could usually find him relaxing at Duke's in Honolulu. Ian enjoyed watching TV, playing poker on his electronic hand-held device, playing cribbage with his uncles at the wholesale. He took great delight in driving but not always so well. He loved a good joke, laughing louder than anybody at the punch line. The family will be having a Celebration of Ian's Life on Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Foster and McGarvey, 10011 - 114 Street.
