After a courageous battle with cancer, Mom leaves behind her love for her five children, Riki (aka "Henny") Bowen, Leo (Debra) van Lier, Elly (Dave) Duff, Ria (Allen) Miller and Janey (Bernie) Semrau; nine grandchildren, Deeann (Jason), Matthew, Krissy, Marcia, Adam (Ellen), Erin (Ryan), Rebecca, Trisha (Bruce) and Sephia; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and three siblings as well as many more extended family and dear friends. She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, John van Lier in 1978; second husband John Slof in 1994, and nine siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist, 9830-148 Street, Edmonton. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Unit 9Y – Mel Miller Hospice, whose care for Mom (and us) made a difficult time a little easier. For those who wish to do so, memorial donations in Mom’s name may be made to Unit 9Y – Mel Miller Hospice, Caritas Hospitals Foundation, 11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5K 0L4. Mom, God said "It is time for her to come back to me". Through this courage we had the strength to set you free. Sleep well; you will forever be a part of our lives. Love Forever, Your Children.
