of Edmonton
May 28, 1922 - Apr 23, 2012
Geoff passed away peacefully on April 23, 2012, in the U of A Hospital, with his family at his side. He was born in Winnipeg, MB; received his BSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba; he met and married Florence, his wife of 62 years, in Winnipeg; moved to Edmonton, residing in the communities of Strathearn, then Ottewell, and finally, the Rosedale Manor on Jasper Avenue. Over the years, Geoff worked as a construction manager for DCL, Fraser and Rice, and as a consultant for K. Hansen Masonry. He is survived by his wife Florence; sons Richard (Ina) or Calgary, Donald (Karen) of Calgary, Douglas (Marcia) of Surrey; brother Ronald of Edmonton; grandchildren Benjamin, Gabriel, Janica, Jefferson, Jaylene, David and Vanessa. He was predeceased by his daughter Susan Knight and his brother Donald. Geoff will be sadly missed by family and friends. He had a tenacious nature and no challenge was too difficult to take on. Any family member or friend in need would find him there willing to lend a hand. His strong love of nature developed during the many long, sunny summers spent at Hecla Island in the southern part of Lake Winnipeg. Many fond memories remain with family and friends, and strong bonds formed with the Icelandic people who settled the area. There will be a Memorial Service for Geoff on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 8424-95 Avenue, Edmonton. Charitable donations in Geoff’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
