George Alec Guild

On May 6, 2012, George passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years with his family by his side.

He will be forever missed by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Alice; his two daughters, Barbara (Parker) Fjeldberg, and Evelyn Schwabe; and his granddaughter, Autumn Rose. He also leaves behind his stepson, Randy (Connie) Swift; and Randy’s son, BJ.

George was a quiet, gentle, and content man, with a unique sense of humour. He had many interests and loved to share his knowledge with others. He loved to read and was a history buff. After 36 years of dedicated service to the Provincial Government, George retired on his 55th birthday. He then pursued his passion of making pottery, teaching children’s pottery classes, and ultimately opening up a gift shop on Whyte Avenue. He was an avid gardener and spent many hours in his garden. He built a cottage at Long Lake where he enjoyed many happy years with his family and friends. He served in the RCASC and one of his proudest moments was being given a Queen’s Commission (professional level) for that service.

George was happiest when surrounded by family and was steadfast in his care of them. He took wonderful care of his parents and elderly uncles. When Alice was placed into the Edmonton General Hospital, he visited her faithfully. He took her for daily walks in her wheelchair and they were a familiar sight on the Legislature grounds.

George will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and his beloved beagle, Wendy. George will be reunited in heaven with his younger brother, Bill, and his son-in-law, Reid. In keeping with George’s style and wishes, cremation has taken place and a private gathering will be held at a future date.
