It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick John Johnson on May 31, 2012 at the age of 87. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Mary Catherine Johnson; children, Kimberley (Ted) Smith of Calgary, and
Jim (Julia) Johnson of Edmonton; grandchildren, Erin (Bill) Kent, Jennifer (Matt) Williams, Matthew Smith, Sam and Emily Johnson, great grandchildren, Mia and Abigail Kent; sister, Shirley Wilson of Lethbridge, as well as family and friends.
Fred was predeceased by his brother, Jim Johnson of Vancouver.
Fred was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and raised in Lethbridge. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy prior to attending the University of British Columbia. He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity there. From University he joined London Life Insurance Company Group Division in London, Ontario. After working in Montreal first, he then was transferred to Edmonton, Alberta, where he stayed and raised his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a life long member of the Royal Glenora Club
where he was active in racquet sports, particularly squash and tennis.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on floor 5E at the University Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
There will be a celebration of Fred\'s life on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. at the Royal Glenora Club, 11160 River Valley Road, Edmonton, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
