of Edmonton
Apr 8, 1928 - Jun 24, 2012
On June 24, 2012, Joyce Neary passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer.
Left to mourn her loss are her nieces and nephews, Nancy (Rick) Leicht, Hugh (Michelle) McKay, Lon McKay (Lynn Hill), Joyce (Randy) Wiens and 10 "grandchildren". She is also survived by Jack, Bill, and Roberta-Lee Neary, Wil Becker, Jane McKay, and many, many long-time friends.
Joyce was born in Calgary, grew up in Coronation, AB and finished high school in Edmonton. In 1951, she began her career in the new Alberta oil industry and, in 1997, was recognized for her contributions and achievements by becoming the first female inductee to the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. She was a founding member of "Desk and Derrick", serving twice as club president, and recently received a 60 year membership commendation from that international organization.
Joyce held office in provincial and national levels of the IODE; and was a member of the Women’s Canadian Club and the congregation of MacDougall United Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and could always be counted on to be the life of the party at any event she chose to attend.
A Memorial Service will take place at Foster and McGarvey Funeral Home, 10011 - 114 Street, Edmonton on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
Joyce supported many charities throughout her life. If you so choose, please make a donation in her memory to a charity that is important to you.
