of Edmonton
Apr 13, 1931 - Oct 31, 2014
In the early hours of October 31, Bob passed away peacefully at the University Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Robbie; three brothers: Doug, Don (Marg) and Gord (Mary); all of Moose Jaw and many, many nephews and nieces spanning three generations.
Bob lived a full and productive life. He excelled as a journalist. While covering the Canadian North for the Edmonton Journal, his news-breaking coverage of the Clayborn/Flores plane crash (50 years ago) drew international attention and earned him a National Newspaper Award and an Associated Press commendation. This led to postings with Southam News Services in London, England, Ottawa and Quebec City. He later returned to the Edmonton Journal as associate editor.
Upon leaving the Journal, Bob completed Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Alberta, additions to the Bachelor of Commerce degree he earned years earlier at the University of Saskatchewan. He took great pride in serving on the Senate of the University of Alberta.
Bob’s devoted wife, his family and the friends who enjoyed his camaraderie over the years will miss a kind and dignified gentleman.
