Douglas McBurney

On May 3, 2019 Douglas McBurney of St. Albert passed away at the age of 96 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Jay; children Brian, Beverley (Gary) Bain, Wendy (Gordon) Baergen, Darryl (Irene) McBurney, and Derek (Stefanie) McBurney, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Douglas was predeceased by his son Blair.

Doug joined the RCAF as a pilot during WWII, retiring from the military in 1969 to fly for Transport Canada until 1981. He also did a limited United Nations stint in Nigeria. He was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Al Shamal Shriners.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doug’s name to Al Shamal Shriners Children’s Transportation Fund, 14511 142 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6V 1H8.

Doug’s family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Chartwell Retirement Residence in St. Albert. and Dr Allan McDonald for the compassionate care. Your caring and support for dad will always be remembered.
