E.C. "BETTY" JENKINS
December 29, 1927 - July 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Jenkins announces her passing on July 18, 2021. She was 93 years old. Betty led a rich and full life. She was a strong woman - intelligent, witty, and tough-minded right up to her final days.
Betty is survived by her three children - Kevin (Helen), Ian (Marjorie) and Sam (Maureen); seven grandchildren - Matthew (Masha), Hilary (Rhett), Hannah (Jon), Robyn, Lauren, Taylor and Dylan; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Finn. She was pre-deceased by her wonderful, loving husband of 58 years, Garry.
Betty was born in King Edward, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the oldest of eighteen children. She immigrated to Canada to be with her new husband, Garry, in 1956. They raised three children together using Christian values as their guiding principle. Betty believed in treating every person with decency, a principle that she passed on to her children. She was a founding member of WIN House (empowering gender-based abuse victims), tutored refugees, and readily volunteered her time to many other noteworthy charities. She was a voracious reader, played badminton and golf, and was an avid Bridge player.
Betty and Garry worshipped and were energetically involved with Robertson-Wesley United Church for over 50 years and made some of their closest friends there.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Robertson-Wesley United Church (10209 - 123 St NW, Edmonton, Alberta). All attendees must show proof of vaccination.
Donations in Betty's memory may be sent to Robertson-Wesley.
