On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Janny Koning (nee VandenBerg) passed into the glorious presence of her Lord and Saviour at the age of 94 years.

Janny is remembered as a kind, strong woman who came to Canada in 1953 with her older sister, Corrie. She truly started a new life here in Canada, having lived through World War II in the Netherlands as part of a big family. In 1958 she met and married the love of her life, Gijsbertus Koning, and a year later they started a family which grew to include Grace Boender (Ed), Cyndie Koning (Wayne Peters), Peter Koning (Sylvia), Jim Koning (Stacey), and Robin Koning (Anne).

She was predeceased by her husband in 1976, and by many close family and friends.

Her strength came from her steadfast faith, living through adversity, and finding joy in her children, their spouses and partners, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends were so very important to her and she built lifelong friendships in and out of her church community. Mom taught us how to live and love and leaves a legacy of support for so many.

Her Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at West End Christian Reformed Church, 10015-149 Street, Edmonton, AB.
