Kathryn Isabel (Chase) Merrett, born (to Jean and Darwin Chase) July 9, 1944, in Winnipeg, Manitoba; author, editor, local historian, architectural scholar, community builder, and gardening writer died after a long illness on July 1, 2023.
Kathryn studied English at the University of Manitoba (BA [Hons] and MA), at the Northern Institute of Technology (Arch Dip Tech), and at the University of Alberta (ABD [English] and MA [History]).
She married Robert James Merrett on September 1, 1970. They enjoyed a happy life. Sharing intellectual and cultural pleasures, including frequent visits to France.
She leaves behind her bereft husband; her sister, Linda (Don); their daughters, Samantha (Kevin, their year-old daughter Ember) and Angeline (Quentin). She also leaves Rob's sister, Susan; and her children, Karen, Sarah, Amanda, and Gary; along with their partners and children.
While Kathryn rejoiced in the encouragement of family and friends, blessed in knowing them, they in turn praised her social inspiration, admired her generous demeanor, and honoured her principled intelligence and loving soul.
A Memorial Service will be held at Foster & McGarvey Downtown on September 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
