(Maiden: Saunders)
of Edmonton
May 25, 1920 - Jun 25, 2013
After a rich life of 93 years, Margaret Elizabeth Wildgoose (nee Saunders), known as Betty, passed away on June 25, 2013. Betty was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The fondest memories of her youth were of canoeing on the Red River and summers spent at Victoria Beach. She met Norman Wildgoose at the Winnipeg Canoe Club and they married in 1944. In 1960, Betty and Norman and their family of four children moved to Edmonton. When Norman died too young in 1989, Betty carried on independently travelling, making new friends and enjoying her growing family. She was an artist, a homemaker, a seamstress, an active volunteer, a gardener, a dog lover, a bridge player, a golfer, a contributor to the community, a Scrabble wizard, a lover of nature, a reader, a swimmer, a curler, a good friend, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty is lovingly remembered by her children Nancy (Donald Kubesh), Clifford (Cathy), Catherine Sandmeyer (Frank), Bobbie (Ron Kruhlak); grandchildren Mary Kubesh (David Pontello), Peter Kubesh, Jennifer Dechaine (Greg), Allison Sandmeyer–Graves (Chad Graves), Laura Griffith (Curtis), Jessica and Maureen Kruhlak; great-grandchildren Henri, Madeleine & Thomas Dechaine and Jack Graves; her brother Gordon Saunders (June) and sister-in-law Phyllis Simovitch. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert. The family will be having a private celebration of Betty’s life. The Wildgoose family cannot thank her Canterbury family enough for their years of friendship and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the United Way of Alberta, 15132 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB, T5P 3Y3 (www.myunitedway.ca).
